Obituary for Michael Eugene Church
Michael Eugene Church, 73, passed away at his home on February 16, 2020.
Mike was born in Gastonia, NC on November 8th, 1947 to the late Lass Hansford Church & Naoma Louise Rodebaugh Church. He was survived by his wife and best friend Bonnie M Rodi, of 34 years; Linda Gray, his sister and her children, Josh and Erica Newell, and their children, Noah, Aleah, Lana, Colin, Judiah; and Kelli and Nick White and their children, Eli and Finley.
Mike grew up in Bunnell Florida and attended Daytona Beach Community College before moving to Atlanta Georgia in 1971. He worked for Genuine Parts then Cycle News where he worked for 12 years in Ad Sales & working and photographing motorcycle races. Mike then came to work for Al Rodi Motorcycle Sales to head up the Commercial Lawn Maintenance Equipment division. After many years, he moved to WERA Racing Organization where he again sold advertizing and worked racing events. His love of motorcycles and exotic cars led to his final career move to Auto Appraisal Group where he worked as an independent appraiser until he retired in 2013.
Our Nieces, Melanie & Rachael, lived with us in Tucker before his last year in Mountain View Rehab and Nursing in Clayton GA. These wonderful girls made life so much easier for Mike and Bonnie living with Alzheimer’s. Many meals shared on the back porch and walks with Mike in the back yard.
Mike was a kind, gentle, fun-loving soul who was loved by everyone who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor in May. Details to come. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Mike (alz.org).
